200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Our 200-hour program equips you with the skills to excel in clinical and private yoga settings. It goes beyond traditional group yoga methods by focusing on trauma-informed approaches and relational skills for one-on-one work.

Our 200-hour training offers a comprehensive education in private and clinical yoga practice, including:

  • Techniques and Training – Master therapeutic techniques such as movement, posture, breathwork, and meditation. Develop skills in adaptive cuing and tailored language for diverse learning styles and needs, with a focus on contraindications.
  • Anatomy and Physiology – Explore nervous system physiology, neurophysiology, and the latest research on breathwork and therapeutic yoga, with practical applications.
  • Yoga Philosophy and Context – Understand the therapeutic application of yoga, including Koshic Theory, trauma perspectives, and the philosophical foundations guiding client transformation.
  • Professional Methodology – Learn effective client interactions, business management, scope of practice, ethics, and strategies for running a successful, accessible private yoga practice.
  • Practicum – Apply your learning through personal practice, teaching, supervision, and mentorship, gaining valuable real-world experience and feedback.

After completing this training, graduates will receive a 200-hour certification from ClinicAlly Trained.

Prerequisites & Application

A commitment to ongoing learning and personal growth, along with a curiosity about yoga for specific therapeutic or personal reasons. Applicants should be willing to dedicate a sustainable level of time and energy to their education and practice. We select candidates based on their clarity of purpose, enthusiasm, and readiness to immerse deeply in the training.

Program Duration: Program can be completed in as little as 5 months, and up to 5 years. Lessons are completed online at your own pace.

Attendance at 5 Zoom meetings is required for program completion. Meetings are held four times per month.

Attendance at 1 virtual long weekend retreat is required for program completion. Retreats are offered twice per year. Cost of retreats is included in tuition.

Following the final exam, private mentorship consultations are available to provide professional support and guidance.

500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Building on the foundation of our 200-hour training, the 500-hour program equips you with deeper expertise and specialized skills to excel in clinical and private yoga settings. Designed for mental health professionals, this program emphasizes clinical applications, practical skills, and professional integration, preparing you to confidently apply therapeutic yoga in diverse settings.

Participants complete our 200 hour program prior to 300 hours of advanced modules.

Our 200-hour program focuses on the foundational skills necessary for private and clinical yoga settings. Trainees gain proficiency in trauma-informed practices, client-centered teaching, and scientifically grounded techniques, including the use of yoga postures, breathwork, and meditation for individual clients. Graduates are trained to work with clients one-on-one, integrating neurophysiological and psychophysiological research to promote nervous system regulation and neuroplasticity. Core skills include effective communication, ethical practice, and business acumen for private practice.

This Yoga Alliance-certified 500-hour program positions you at the forefront of integrating somatics, breathwork, and meditation in mental health care. Surpassing traditional trauma-sensitive yoga and theoretical somatic approaches, it provides practical evidence-based techniques and specific recommendations for incorporating these practices into talk therapy, equipping you for impactful work in both clinical and private settings.

300-Hour Advanced Modules
  • Teaching Yoga To People With Trauma
    This module introduces a holistic approach to trauma recovery, focusing on the one-on-one application of somatic and meditation practices. Participants will learn how to adapt yoga frameworks and trauma-sensitive protocols for individual clients, ensuring safe and effective therapeutic progress. Emphasis is placed on pacing practices to meet the client’s needs, empowering them in their healing journey. Practical sessions will cover how to administer home practices and build rapport while integrating Western medical modalities for trauma recovery. Contraindications and client education are key components.
  • Teaching Breathwork to People with Mental Health Conditions
    In this module, participants will explore how to apply breathwork techniques for mental health conditions such as anxiety, compulsive disorders, and depression. This course covers the selection and delivery of clinically appropriate breathwork based on yoga philosophy, with attention to contraindications and efficacy. Trainees will experience the energetic effects of breathwork firsthand and practice selecting and prescribing these techniques with sample case study analysis. Participants will receive resources for integrating breathwork into ongoing clinical care, including instructional notes and multimedia materials.
  • Teaching Yoga To People With Anxiety
    This module focuses on teaching yoga to individuals with anxiety or panic disorders. Trainees will apply yoga philosophy frameworks to assess and resolve areas of dysregulation within clients. Through experiential learning, participants will practice movement, breathwork, chanting, and meditation techniques that are safe and effective for anxiety management. This module covers the empirical evidence for these practices and teaches how to screen for contraindications and track therapeutic outcomes. Practical applications for both telehealth and in-person sessions are included.
  • Teaching Yoga To People With Depression
    This module explores how yoga can support individuals with treatment-resistant depression by focusing on key areas such as sustaining motivation, preventing relapse, improving sleep patterns, and addressing feelings of hopelessness or loss of interest. It also covers how to manage physiological and neurological factors commonly linked to depression, such as inflammation and dysfunction in the HPA axis. Participants will learn to teach practices aimed at restoring balance to the autonomic nervous system, enhancing brain function, restoring healthy routines, and reducing stress markers. The module includes a blend of yoga techniques, lifestyle recommendations, spiritual practices, and research-based interventions to promote healing and well-being.
  • Advanced Cueing Strategies for Transformative Impact
    In this module, participants will explore various cueing strategies tailored to the individual client. Drawing on the Ayurvedic doshas, this course provides tools for optimizing practice outcomes by adjusting the style, content, and delivery of verbal cues. Trainees will develop practical skills for effectively guiding clients through yoga practices with a heightened awareness of client needs, feedback, and responsiveness.
  • Advanced Layering Techniques for Neurodiversity
    This module focuses on adapting yoga practices to suit clients with varying learning styles, attention challenges, and neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD. Participants will learn to tailor the selection, delivery, and coupling of various yoga techniques based on individual cognitive and sensory needs, ensuring accessibility and efficacy.
  • Addressing Problematic Thoughts with Yoga
    This module introduces yoga philosophy and chanting as tools to help resolve negative thought patterns. It also examines research supporting the cognitive benefits of chanting, offering practical techniques to enhance mental clarity and disrupt negative neurological patterns. Yoga philosophy provides a framework for clients to understand the difference between the discomfort of being present with their pain and the added suffering created by the mind's stories. By aligning these practices with individual client needs, trainees will leverage neuroplasticity to promote mental well-being and resolve problematic thoughts.
  • Selecting Accessible Meditation Methods
    Participants in this module will learn how to select, individualize, and adapt meditation techniques using a framework inspired by Ayurveda. This approach focuses on addressing specific mental and emotional imbalances, ensuring a personalized and accessible experience for clients. Trainees will gain tools to support clients with maladaptive patterns, foster perspective shifts, and engage effectively in practices that promote meaningful progress and neuroplasticity.
  • Retraining Healthy Breathing To Support Nervous System Regulation
    This module teaches participants to work with individuals with breath dysfunction. Trainees will explore respiratory anatomy and physiology, common dysfunction patterns, and their impact on physical and mental health. Participants will learn to recognize dysfunctional breathing patterns, teach practices to facilitate healthy breathing patterns and overall wellness.
Program Structure

Our curriculum offers flexibility, allowing students to work at their own pace and complete their hours according to their own schedule. The program includes both live virtual and asynchronous online formats, with a maximum of 5 years to finish. The 200-hour program can be completed in as little as 5 months, while the additional 300 hours toward the 500-hour certification can be completed in 10 months at an accelerated pace. Regardless of their chosen timeline, students must attend at least 5 of the scheduled monthly live virtual sessions for Mentorship Meetings and 5 for Practicum Supervision.

  • Professional Methodology – Learn effective client interactions, business management, scope of practice, ethics, and strategies for running a successful, accessible private yoga practice. Adopt a trauma-informed organizational culture and adapt methodologies for clients with neurodiversity, executive functioning issues, and high-risk social determinants of health.
  • Experiential Learning  – Experience deep personal engagement with the techniques covered in the course. Through self-practice, journaling, and practical projects, you'll integrate and embody the methods, ensuring a thorough understanding before applying them in client settings. This approach fosters a “felt sense” of the techniques and boosts your effectiveness by considering diverse peer experiences, reinforcing the need to tailor practices to individual client needs.

Certification & Designation

After completing all required hours, case studies, coursework, and assessments, graduates will receive a 500-hour certification from ClinicAlly Trained. They can apply for the Registered ClinicAlly Trained Therapeutic Specialist (RCT-500) designation. Graduates will also have the opportunity to be listed as a qualified partner on our sister site, Yoga Therapy Associates, and use the RCT-500 designation in their professional signatures.

Candidate Qualifications

We carefully select candidates who are enthusiastic, purposeful, and ready to immerse deeply in the training. A sustainable level of time and energy should be dedicated to both education and personal practice.

Prerequisites

  • Without Prior 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training: Complete the full 500-hour program.
  • With Prior 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training: Enroll in a condensed Bridge Course covering our key concepts, followed by a proficiency exam. If successful, you will bypass the 200-hour content and complete only the remaining 300 hours of the 500-hour program.
